Liposuction, which is discussed the Cosmetic Surgery Section, is not intended to be used as a weight control treatment (although most patients do not exactly complain about this "side-effect").
Removing more than a modest amount of fat in one operation can lead to unusual lumpiness and denting and cause internal fluid-shifts that make the surgery much more risky.

Instead, liposuction is better thought of as a body contouring operation in which selected depots of fat that have not disappeared despite diet and exercise are reshaped by thinning.
