Medical Spas > Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a procedure that yields "medical grade" exfoliation of the dead outermost layer of skin. It's entirely non-invasive and can be used on the skin of the face, neck, or arms. In contrast to other stronger resurfacing procedures, the recovery time is essentially zero.
The abrasion is accomplished by jets of fine ceramic, diamond, crystal, or organic particles shooting up against the skin that are then collected with a suction wand. Its name seems a bit inappropriate as microdermabrasion shares virtually nothing in common with the much more powerful and long established procedure named dermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion can be used to treat the earliest signs of aging skin like fine lines and overpigmentation as well as common teen problems like mild acne and large pores. In contrast to deeper treatments like most lasers and chemical peels, the procedure can be used in most dark complexioned individuals.
Exfoliation nearly as good can be accomplished at home using over-the-counter microdermabrasion systems that are widely available, affordable, and effective at polishing off dead skin cells.
