Less Invasive Surgery > Cellulite Treatments

Cellulite, or that cottage-cheese lumpiness most common on the thighs and buttocks, has been almost impossible to treat by almost any method, including liposuction, fat injections, lower body lift, mesotherapy, herbal and dietary supplements, and creams and lotions. In fact, only lower body lift and fat injections have any data supporting any beneficial effect, while liposuction can make things worse. Creams and lotions are just a waste of money.

Cellulite is caused by bands of fibrous tissue that connect muscle to skin. If the bands are tight, fat can bulge between them causing dimpling. Almost all women have some cellulite and so do some men.

There is hope. A recent study suggests that a combination of minimally-invasive laser treatment beneath the skin followed by fat transplantation by injection holds considerable promise. The laser seems to stimulate new collagen formation and skin tightening, while the fat injections fill in the dips and depressions.

Since formation of cellulite is a chronic condition stemming from genetic and hormonal factors, this new treatment is not a permanent cure but at least offers the possibility of a safe and effective approach in severe cases.
