Eyes > Permanent Eye Makeup
Permanent eyelid and brow makeup, sometimes called blepharopigmentation or micropigmentation, has been around for twenty years. It is really nothing more than a tattoo applied within the eyelashes (permanent eyeliner) or brows (permanent brows).
While some brow applications may be very long-lasting, "permanent" is a bit of an exaggeration. Eyelash enhancement may disappear within a few years in most cases, possibly because of the high tissue repair and remodeling mechanisms present along the eyelid margin. Touch-ups can restore areas that have faded and help maintain optimal appearance.
Most people are happy with their results, especially if they formerly had trouble applying eye makeup due to problems like poor vision, arthritis, tremors, and so on. |

If removal of the tattoo is desired, it can either be camouflaged by adding an overlying pigment that is similar to the natural skin color or using laser techniques described in the Skin Care Section above.
Permanent makeup can be used in areas other than around the eyes, such as the face, lips, or the breast's areola after some forms of breast surgery.
While originally performed by ophthalmologists and plastic surgeons, most permanent eye makeup is today applied by specially trained cosmetologists.
