Eyes > Eye Color and Contact Lenses
Eye color is a genetic trait and is determined by amount, distribution, and depth of melanin pigment in the iris of the eye. Eye color exists as continuum from the palest shades of blue to the deepest shades of brown.
Due to intermarriage among different ethnic groups, blues eyes are becoming increasing uncommon among children born in the United States, with only about 15% of the population now having blue eyes. So, of course, everybody wants them!
Eye color can sometimes seem more appealing when it diverges from what might normally be expected for a person with a given hair and skin tone. For instance, brown eyes on a blond (instead of blue) or blue eyes on a brunette (instead of brown) seem to attract added attention.
Hence, the popularity of colored contact lenses.

Cosmetic contact lenses can be used to change the visible color of the eyes. Two basic categories exist: those with an enhancement tint and those with color tints.
Enhancement tint lenses are translucent and more intended to make light colored eyes appear more intense.
Color tint lenses are opaque over the iris (clear over the pupil so you can see) and will change eye color completely, even in those with dark brown eyes. Tints vary throughout the natural spectrum and off into the supernatural with deep violets, grays and blacks, and even alien rainbow tints.
Colored contact lenses come in plano powers (no power) as well as corrective strengths for those who need vision correction. All require a prescription.
