Cosmetic Surgery > Facelift

A facelift is not just one thing. There are upper face lifts (forehead and brow lifts), midface lifts (cheek lifts), and lower face lifts (jowl and neck lift), each performed alone or in combination with each other and more like eyelid surgery.

Also known as rhytidectomy, the operation has evolved from one less dependent on skin removal and more focused on reinforcement of sagging muscles, fascia, and fat pads deeper below.

Even with modern technique, the biggest shortcoming with facelift is its unacceptably high incidence of results that look artificial. But then, what are you going to do instead?

Why Do It?

As the face loses deeper volume and the skin gives up its youthful elasticity, there's nowhere for your deflated balloon to fall except south. Hence, all the lifting.

Many experts now believe that facial aging is more a matter of fat loss and deflation and less of skin stretching.

Some predict that most facelifting may eventually be replaced by techniques emphasizing volume enhancement with natural substances like fat or commercial fillers that come packaged inside of a syringe.
