Plastic Surgery > Breast Implant Removal

Breast implant removal is not uncommon and may be needed after rupture of the implant or formation of a capsule around the implant that then contracts (capsular contracture).

Some removal is simply because of the desire to exchange implants to smaller or larger sizes or return to the previously natural state.

Why Do It?

Many breast surgeons believe that it is to be expected that a substantial percentage of women with implants will need to undergo additional future surgery some time in their lives to either revise implant position or address problems with eventual implant failure.

Worries about a strong linkage between breast implant rupture and the emergence of certain systemic diseases have been largely discounted by numerous studies.
